屯する家
屯 (TON) means “to hang out.”
A lone house in the rice fields of Saku, built for exactly that.
Whole-house rental / 1–12 guests / from ¥40,000 / night
Just for today,
let’s stay longer.
An old house, alone in the rice fields.
Yuhara, Saku — in the rice fields.
Two tatami living rooms, a dining kitchen, a work room and two bedrooms downstairs. Two more bedrooms upstairs.
Beside the house, a cedar-clad sauna and a wood deck facing the fields.
Floor plan below. 50 photos, room by room, on the House page.

Twenty-four hours in this house.
There is no set way to spend your time here. But for a first visit, here is one way it goes, from arriving at 15:00 to leaving at 11:00. Stay two nights and the whole day in between is yours.
15:00Check-in
Arrive. The key is in the lockbox.
No front desk. After online check-in, we send the lockbox code. Open it, go in, and do as you like.
15:30Shopping
Groceries at Tsuruya Usuda, 5 minutes by car.
Nagano’s favourite supermarket: local vegetables, Shinshu food, drinks. Convenience stores are scarce, so stock up here.
17:00Sauna on
Switch on the sauna. It’s electric — just a switch.
A HARVIA electric stove, so no tending a fire. While it heats up, fill the bath with cold water — that becomes your plunge later.
Same schedule with kids. Running around the tatami living room bothers no one. Sauna: not under 6, and children under 12 go in with an adult.
With kids →18:30Dinner
Cook for yourselves. Full kitchen, three burners.
Salt, pepper, oil, sake and soy sauce are provided. Cookware and tableware for 12. At night you can light a campfire in the front garden — bring your own firewood. Bring a grate or skewers and you can cook over it, too.
20:00Sauna
Eight in the sauna. Then cool down facing the rice fields.
A cedar-clad sauna room. Löyly with tap water; aroma oil available. Cold plunge in the bath or the pool on the deck. Swimwear on, take turns.
22:00Music
Get on the music. The night is long from here.
A DJ controller (DDJ-FLX4) in the tatami living room — one USB cable to your phone or laptop. The projector has Google TV built in, so films work too. After 22:00, keep the volume down, inside and out.
23:30Night
Suddenly it’s night. That kind of place.
The only sound is your own voices. On clear nights, the stars are good. Eight futon sets downstairs, four semi-double beds upstairs. Whoever gets sleepy first, goes.
7:00Morning
Morning on the engawa, with the house coffee.
50g of TON Blend, roasted for us in Usuda, is waiting. Dripper and kettle too. Rice fields outside the window.
9:00Work
Bring work if you like. A room with a view of the fields.
Desk, power, free Wi-Fi throughout. There is a washer-dryer, so two nights need little luggage. Multi-night discounts: 15% for 2 nights, 20% for 4, 25% for 6.
Come on a weekday, stay two nights, and use the whole day in between. We think that is the easiest way to use this house.
Work & daily life →The house, and its radius.
Within a 5-minute drive: supermarket, coffee roaster, park, hospital.
Within 20: the Shinkansen station and a children’s science museum.
40 minutes to Karuizawa, an hour to the foot of Yatsugatake.
The furniture and tools we use here.
If something catches your eye, this is how to find it.
Where we know the maker, we name them.

Wrapped in washi paper, the light loses its hard edges. In three spots.
3 spots
Finnish, electric. In a cedar room where eight can sit without hurrying.
Sauna
A washi top commissioned from an artist in Nagawa. Shunga prints, Mu, Popeye and a book of law pressed into the paper.
Dining
Made to order in Nirasaki from retired tatami mats. On the engawa and in the kitchen.
Engawa, kitchen
A wooden light frame that had hung here for decades, given new life in washi.
Living
Upcycled restaurant chairs, repainted and reupholstered. Proper small chairs, too.
Dining
A big sofa in orange and greige, on the tatami. Apparently the first two-tone order they had taken.
Living
A blend roasted for this house in Usuda. 50g is waiting.
KitchenEverything a house needs, more or less.
No service. Instead, you can cook and do laundry.
The rooms themselves — sauna, living, bedrooms, deck — are on the House page.

Not an escape from daily life —
a different daily life.
For three days in a row, weekdays suit this house best.
Bring your work.
A desk and power in the room facing the fields. Free Wi-Fi throughout.
There is a washer-dryer, so three days don’t mean more luggage.
Wake at the same time, work the same way.
What changes is the view, and what happens when you stop.
Coming as a group? There is a DJ booth, a big living room and a full kitchen.
Call it a retreat, a workshop, whatever you like.
¥40,000 for the house looks steep for two, but split six ways it is ¥7,650 a night each. Same price, different maths.
Doing nothing starts on the second day.
One night is fine too. 15% off for 2 nights, 20% for 4, 25% for 6.
Rates differ on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. The booking screen shows the total.
